Wole Soyinka, Lagos will come alive with vibrant storytelling and cultural depth as the highly anticipated Black musical, “The Noble Warrior (Eni Ogun),” takes centre stage from July 11 to 13, 2025, at the iconic Glover Memorial Hall. This three-day theatrical event celebrates the 91st birthday of Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, whose legacy continues to inspire generations.
Directed by renowned theatre director Segun Adefila and written by Cash Onadele, The Noble Warrior is more than just a tribute—it’s an immersive journey through identity, struggle, and African pride. The production features two daily performances at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., promising a powerful blend of music, movement, and deeply personal storytelling.
Adefila describes the musical as “a story for everyone,” adding, “There’s no pretence of perfection. We all have flaws, and every action has its roots.” Through bold metaphors—including the symbolic portrayal of Africa’s historical violation—the show remains a hopeful and empowering narrative. “Africa is still a beacon of hope,” Adefila affirms.
Portraying Wole oyinka is Oluwatosin Yormekpeh, who calls the role both “challenging and intentional.” Fellow cast members, including Sholanke Oluwatosin (Olasope) and Segun Moses (Apena), highlight the musical’s educational and emotional depth. For Friday Francis Olohuntimileyin, the production is a celebration of Soyinka’s resilience, activism, and commitment to truth—even in the face of imprisonment.
Stage manager Michael Okorie hails the musical’s unique style as “groundbreaking,” adding, “What we’re doing here has never been done anywhere else.”
The Noble Warrior (Eni Ogun) stands as a powerful artistic tribute, inviting audiences to honour one of Nigeria’s most celebrated icons through a transformative and unforgettable live performance experience.
