Manchester United may need to match or exceed the £62.5 million paid for Matheus Cunha if they want to sign Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, according to reports.
The Red Devils, looking to rebuild after a poor Premier League finish, have already confirmed the signing of Cunha, who contributed to 21 goals last season. Now, United are targeting Mbeumo, who is said to be open to the move.
Brentford reportedly values Mbeumo higher than Cunha, citing his proven Premier League record, 72 goal contributions in 136 games, compared to Cunha’s 42 in 82 matches. As a result, the Bees want over £55 million, with £62.5 million seen as a “realistic” figure.
Despite the player’s interest, talks have not yet begun between United and Brentford. However, sources warn that without meeting the asking price, the transfer could drag on throughout the summer.
Brentford have shown in the past, especially with Ivan Toney, that they won’t back down on their valuations. Meanwhile, Newcastle United are also monitoring Mbeumo and could swoop in if United hesitate.
