The much-anticipated international friendly between Nigeria-Cameroon. Nigeria’s Super Falcons and Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses will now take place on Tuesday, June 3. At the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta, Ogun State. This follows a decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to reject a proposed shift to Monday.
Initially slated for Tuesday. The clash had briefly been moved forward to Monday, June 2, due to the cancellation of the first leg originally scheduled for Saturday, May 31, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.
The first encounter was scrapped after the Cameroonian team arrived late on Friday night. Missing essential pre-match procedures and rest protocols.
In response, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Cameroon’s FECAFOOT requested a change to June 2 for the return fixture.
However, CAF declined the amendment, insisting the match proceed on the original date of June 3. As a result, the Super Falcons confirmed the rescheduling via their official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday. Noting that the fixture would revert to the original date.
Meanwhile, the Cameroonian squad is currently based in Ijebu Ode. Where they are holding training sessions ahead of the match. Abeokuta, a short distance away, will host the game. This fixture marks the Super Falcons’ first appearance since their narrow 1–0 defeat to France in a friendly held last November.
The Nigeria-Cameroon match is an integral part of Nigeria’s preparations for the upcoming 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. Although Cameroon did not qualify for WAFCON 2024, they remain familiar rivals.
Nigeria holds a dominant record against the Lionesses, who haven’t scored in their last six meetings and last beat the Falcons back in 2012.The stage is now set for a highly competitive showdown.
