The Minister of State for Health, Dr. Iziaq Salako, has called on community health practitioners across Nigeria to remain committed to professionalism and integrity in their service delivery. Speaking at the 5th Induction and Oath-Taking Ceremony of the Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria (CHPRBN) in Abuja, Dr. Salako emphasized the pivotal role these practitioners play in strengthening Nigeria’s primary healthcare system.
Addressing the 930 newly inducted health officers, Salako described community health workers as the frontline heroes of the nation’s healthcare delivery, especially in underserved and rural areas.
“You are the face of healthcare in many communities. Your service, integrity, and professionalism can mean the difference between life and death,” said Salako. “Uphold the ethics of this noble profession and ensure you leave a lasting positive impact wherever you serve.”
Also speaking at the event, the Registrar of CHPRBN, Dr. Bashir Idris, charged the new inductees to uphold the highest standards of healthcare practice. He reminded them of their responsibilities as ambassadors of the board and custodians of community health.
“Let excellence and compassion guide your every action,” Dr. Idris stated. “Your commitment will define the future of community health in Nigeria.”
A highlight of the ceremony was the recognition of Onwe Eze, a student from Boki College of Health Sciences and Technology, Cross River State, who was named Overall Best Community Health Extension Worker (CHEW) Student in Nigeria.
Prof. Martin Ekpang, Provost of Boki College, praised the national recognition, noting that the achievement would bring well-deserved attention to the institution, particularly given its rural setting.
Held under the theme “Enhancing Excellence: A New Journey Begins,” the event also featured special awards for outstanding graduates in various categories, further celebrating excellence and dedication in the community health sector.
