NAFDAC has issued a public alert about counterfeit Chlorpheniramine and Dexamethasone injection ampoules mislabeled as Noristerat Injection 200mg. These falsified drugs were found in Niger, Bauchi, and Kano states, particularly at the Coordinated Wholesale Centre (CWC) in Kano, with arrests already made. The agency clarified that genuine Noristerat 200mg is a short-term contraceptive providing eight weeks of pregnancy protection.
Authorities are actively working to remove counterfeit products from circulation and have directed all zonal directors and state coordinators to monitor and eliminate them. NAFDAC is also collaborating with law enforcement agencies to track the supply chain and prevent further distribution of these falsified medicines.
Healthcare professionals, importers, distributors, and retailers are urged to be extra cautious and ensure that all medical products are sourced from licensed suppliers. NAFDAC emphasized the importance of checking product authenticity and physical condition before use.
Consumers and healthcare providers are encouraged to report any suspected counterfeit drugs or adverse reactions through NAFDAC’s helpline (0800-162-3322), email (sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng), or via the Med-Safety app available on Android and iOS. Reports can also be submitted through the NAFDAC website. The agency has assured the public that the falsified injection alert will be shared with the WHO’s Global Surveillance and Monitoring System (GSMS) to aid global health safety efforts
