Prosecutors in France are seeking 10-year prison sentences for four men involved in the 2016 armed robbery of Kim Kardashian in Paris. The high-profile trial, nearing its conclusion, revolves around a group dubbed the “Grandpa robbers” due to the suspects’ advanced ages, most are in their 60s and 70s.
Kardashian, who testified last week, recalled fearing for her life when masked men tied her up and stole over $10 million worth of jewelry, including a $3.9 million ring from her then-husband Kanye West. Despite the trauma, she told the court she has forgiven the attackers.
The alleged ringleader, Aomar Ait Khedache, 69, admitted to binding Kardashian but denied being in charge. Prosecutors claim he gave orders, recruited accomplices, and sold the stolen items in Belgium. Three other suspects, including Yunice Abbas, who later wrote a book about the heist, also face 10-year terms.
Additional sentences between six and eight years are being sought for other accomplices, including Kardashian’s former chauffeur’s brother and the lone female defendant, Cathy Glotin, accused of organizing meetings between key players.
While none of the accused are currently in custody, the court is expected to deliver verdicts by Friday. Despite their age and health conditions, prosecutors insist the defendants must be held accountable for the meticulously planned and violent robbery.
